Photography is a lot of fun, and a great way to explore new places and experiences! Whether you’re just starting out, looking to improve your holiday photos or need images for your workplace, I’m here to help.
I’m excited to show you how to get the most out of your modern digital camera, explain what all those buttons and menu options do and which ones really matter.
I’ve heard the saying, ‘I only take bad photos’, but the truth is, photography is all about practice. The more you practice, the better you’ll get and the more confident you’ll feel with your camera.
Knowing the basics of camera controls can open up so many creative possibilities. You’ll be amazed at what you can achieve!
My workshops are one-on-one, lasting two hours each. During that time, I’ll explain different photography techniques, review your photos and take you to a local park for hands-on practice of what we’ve discussed.
There are three sessions in the series, and you can schedule each one to fit your needs, so you can go out and practice what you’ve learned in the workshop. If you have a specific need or experience, the sessions can be customised to suit.
Session one In the first session, you’ll learn about the many controls, buttons and menus on modern digital cameras. Some are used all the time, some only occasionally, but they all have a function that can affect your photos. I’ll break down these controls so you can understand why and how to use them simply.
With your own camera, you’ll get to use the different controls like exposure, shutter speeds, apertures, ISO, lens and file formats and see what effects they have in class. You’ll also be asked to do some homework and take a series of images that cover what you’ve learnt in class, which we’ll discuss in the next session.
Session two After we’ve had a look at your homework on the computer, let’s chat about the photo’s visual appeal. What makes an image truly captivating? Is it the light, the way the elements are arranged, the colours or perhaps just the subject itself? We’ll explore these aspects in more detail.
Session three Now, it’s time to dive into photo editing! You might be surprised at how much your images can shine with a little editing. Whether you prefer using phone apps or diving into industry-standard software like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, we’ll cover some easy, straightforward adjustments to help you bring your vision to life.
Cost of 3 sessions $360 (inc GST) includes notes.
What to bring Make sure you have a DSLR or mirrorless camera, your camera manual, a fully charged camera battery and charger and an empty memory card.
